Our Amazing Fundraising !! ...................
Outdoor grounds can play a key role in pupils' engagement with learning and their motivation to succeed. Activity based learning in an an outdoor classroom is a highly powerful tool, it is not only crucial to a child's emotional and social development but presents a whole new educational experience too. Outdoor classrooms present an array of opportunities for pupils to take part in both independently and collaboratively in learning. In comparison to indoor classrooms where text books and the Internet may be used, the outdoor classroom opens the door to further learning opportunities. Pupils can full immerse themselves in the natural environment taking part in a hands-on, engaging experience, they can touch, smell and listen to their surrounding world.
We currently have an empty space at the back of our building that is not used for any specific purpose. We would like to transform this area with an "outdoor classroom", raised planting beds for growing our own fruit and vegetables, an Eco-friendly Greenhouse made from recycled drinks bottles, and also we hope to have a chicken coop with up to 6 chickens so that the children can learn about animal husbandry.
An outdoor classroom / nature area with an area to learn how to grow food (vegetables and fruit) and to learn how to recycle rain water, and make compost for the garden area (reducing waste) will also help to encourage the children to respect their surroundings, and to take more of an interest in where their food comes from and recycling food and water, which will in turn encourage and promote a healthier lifestyle and improve carbon footprints for the future. School grounds can provide diverse habitats for plants and animals, in even the smallest of sites it is possible to create a nature reserve. Our school is surrounded by buildings on each side of it and we have no "nature " area available at the moment.
We were successful in obtaining Lottery Fund Bid ( Awards for All ) for £10,000 and we are also fortunate enough to have a small PTA who are involved in fundraising activities throughout the year.
"Our Dream Playspace"
"Our Dream Playspace" project is the creation of healthy, fun and stimulating learning environment which can become more than just a playground. We have enhanced our playground with funds from the National Lottery and funds raised by the P.T.A. We have installed artificial grass for the children to use, as our playground is entirely concrete, for the remaining concrete area we would like to be able to provide some floor markings for the children (Multi-Skills zones). We have also created a sheltered area to use as a 'Quiet Zone' that pupils can enter to move away from the hustle and bustle of a very busy yard. This project will benefit the pupils with their social, emotional, mental and physical factors which will have a positive affect on their ability to learn and positively develop.
We were successful in obtaining Lottery Fund Bid ( Awards for All ) for £10,000 and we are also fortunate enough to have a small PTA who are involved in fundraising activities throughout the year who have donated £3,000 towards the total project cost.
The Mayor of Wirral came to officially open our new Trim Trail / Play area.
The School Council worked hard with their own classes to find out what the children would like in the playground and they produced a design based on their findings.
