As part of our drive to ensure that every child can master an understanding and love of maths, all our children have begun using the ‘Maths – No Problem!’ approach to teaching and learning in their maths lessons. The programme has been created using the principles of Singapore Mathematics and is aligned to the 2014 English National Curriculum.
The Singapore method of teaching mathematics develops children’s mathematical ability and confidence without having to resort to memorising procedures. It incorporates the use of concrete aids and manipulatives, through the concrete, pictorial and abstract approach, problem solving and group work.’ (www.mathsnoproblem.co.uk)
As a school we have chosen to use the Singapore Maths approach to our teaching of mathematics. Children are engaged first through an ‘in focus’ task, encouraging children to discuss the ways they could solve the problem given to them. Ideas and methods are recorded in a daily ‘journal’. They are then given time to learn and practise the new skills they have been taught through the use of workbooks and precise teaching.
If you would like to know more about this initiative, please join us on Thursday 4th May from 3.30 to 5.00pm, when after a short presentation in the lower hall you can chat with your child’s teacher.
We hope you can join us.
Thank you for your continued support.
